QUICK READ ABOUT Camel Spider
The Solifugae , solifuges in French, are an order of arthropods in the class Arachnids . Their name, derived from Latin, means “ who runs away from the sun ” . They are also called Galéodes, “wind scorpion” in some African countries, “sun spider” in Spain or even “ten-legged spider” (because of their imposing pedipalps ).
Solifugids, like many other arachnids, appear to have ten legs when they only have eight. Their long pedipalps , at the front of the body, give this impression. Their role is essentially sensory and is similar to that of the antennae of mandibulates . The pedipalps are adhesive and also serve as locomotor appendages.
The greatest particularity of solifugids is to have large chelicerae . Each of the two chelicerae is composed of two articles forming a claw. Each article carries a variable number of teeth. All males, except those of the Eremobatidae , possess a flagellum on the basal segment of the chelicera.
The speed of solifugids is 16 kilometers per hour on average. READ MORE
